It then occurred to them that too much work had gone into the project just to dismantle it. The University offered it to the City of Paris as a gift. The original structure was redesigned at a cost of $77,000 and is approximately 60 feet tall. |
Henry County CourthousePhone: (731) 642-0461Address: 213 West Washington Street Paris, TN 38242 Description: Despite several renovations over the years, the courthouse retains original woodwork, including the staircase banisters, judges benches, and fireplace mantle. In 1996, as part of a Tennessee bicentennial project and in commemoration of Henry County’s 175th birthday and the 100th anniversary of the current courthouse, the main hallway was renovated with some of the water damaged woodwork replaced. Chandeliers and floor tiles were added and a former doorway converted into a display case. The addition of oil portraits of notable citizens, including U.S. Congressman John Wesley Crockett, son of the legendary David Crockett; “Miss Pearl” Routon, artist and florist who successfully lobbied the state legislature to have the iris named as the official state flower; Commissioner Christine Reynolds, the first female member of the governor’s cabinet; and Associate Justice Howell Jackson of the U.S. Supreme Court, will continue to grace the courthouse hallway. |

It was built in 1998 in cooperation with the City of Paris and the Paris Special School District. The Krider Center stage measures 28 by 28 feet with seating for 605 people. It features a state of the art professional sound system, and a trained technician available for your sound and lighting needs. The Krider Center is available throughout the year for musical, dance, and theatrical performances, as well as conferences, seminars and church meetings. Rates vary for profit and non-profit groups. |
Paris-Henry County Heritage CenterPhone: (731) 642-1030Address: 614 North Poplar Street Paris, TN 38242 Description: Established in 1989, the Heritage Center is located in Cavitt Place, the most prestigious mansion in Paris when it was built in 1916. One state historical expert called the Italian Renaissance Revival “the jewel in the crown of Paris.” The Heritage Center is a local history museum, featuring quarterly exhibits in addition to regular tours of this beautiful building. Much more than a storehouse for artifacts, we call the Heritage Center a teaching museum. It is a place were people can learn about our shared past. The park sits on the widest part of the lake (3 miles wide) and is the perfect location for all water sports such as fishing, boating, swimming, and skiing. On land, there is plenty of activity with golfing, hiking, camping, or just relaxing and enjoying the natural beauty and wildlife. Be on the lookout for deer, turkey, fox, and coyote that roam the park. Eagles can be seen in the winter months. There's a lot to do and see at Paris Landing State Park! |

Robert E. Lee School Academy For The ArtsPhone: (731) 642-3411Address: 402 Lee Street Paris, TN 38242 Description: The Robert E. Lee School, listed on the National Historic Register and on a site dedicated to education since 1825, has been restored and is in use as a center for arts education and arts related activities. Ten classrooms house classes in visual arts, dance, ceramics, children's music, crafts, and voice and instrumental instruction. Artists rent additional rooms as studios and local groups hold monthly meetings, as requested, and there are regular concerts. The building has also been marked as an historic site by the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century. Monthly the Tennessee River Fine Arts league hangs an exhibit featuring local and area visual artists. The show is the fourth Friday of each month from 5 pm to 8 pm. The building is open for tourists and browsers from 3 to 6 pm on Fridays and 10 to 2pm on Saturdays as well as other hours when classes are in session. Visitors are welcome to tour or shop or attend concerts or enroll in classes. |

Rhea Public Library and the Henry County Archives, while located in separate buildings, are one in purpose. Both are supported by dedicated volunteers who continually strive to protect, preserve and present the genealogy and history of the county for researchers; both locally, and those who travel great distances to utilize one of the best research facilities for its size, anywhere. The dedication of these volunteers is recognized by not only the many visitors who travel here each year, but also by our state archives and local government. In addition, both maintain websites that handle more than a thousand requests for assistance annually from throughout the world. The following hours are open to the public, and additional hours at the archive are made available upon request for those traveling to the area.
